Memory Verse – Genesis 3:19 – “By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return”
Midweek Message – 2.18.26 – We are Dust / Ash Wednesday Sermon – We pray that God touches your heart as you watch the video.
Lent is the 40 day season of preparation – A time to examine our faith as we prepare our hearts for the glory of Resurrection Sunday.
Pastor suggests 3 regular practices to make a point of doing during this time:
1 Prayer – connect with God
2 Fasting – sacrifice something
3 Giving – serve others
The tone of Lent is that of humility – Walk in true repentance: No excuses; No hiding; No self-salvation.
1. The Meaning of the Ashes — Remember Who You Are
Genesis 3:19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Psalms 103:15-16 As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.
2. The Call of God — Return To Me
Joel 2:12–13 “Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.
3. The Prayer of Repentance — Be Honest Before God
Psalm 51:1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned.
4. The Warning of Jesus — Don’t Perform Religion
Matthew 6:1–6 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
5. The Hope of the Cross — Why We Mark the Forehead
1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for
righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”

Next Meal & Movie on Feb 25 – (conclusion) Brother White – James White is one of a dozen pastors at a mega church in Southern California, under the tutelage of TV evangelist Johnny Kingman. He always longed to have his own church and jumps at the opportunity to become pastor of the impoverished Divine Faith Apostolic Church in Atlanta. His wife and two children aren’t very enthusiastic about his assignment. Neither is the congregation itself, but they will have to learn to trust each other and pull together to save the church from a corrupt banker anxious to foreclose. It will take a musical miracle, supplied by BeBe Winans, to save them all.
As we are transitioning out of the building to turn the space over to Branch Church, the landline phone has been disconnected, and we are working remotely.
If you have an emergency, please contact Pastor Grant Hill directly.
