What’s Happening

Minnewashta Church offers a range of activities and opportunities for you to get involved. From lending your voice to the Choir, weekly Bible study, and service groups such as the Prayer Shawl Ministry – we are always looking for more of our community to participate and welcome new ideas!

If you choose to stay at home, the sermon will be recorded & uploaded within a couple of days to view.  When the upload is ready, sermons will be posted on Facebook and our website under the ministry tab.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 4PM – join us for traditional Christmas carols and message from Pastor Grant Hill.

High quality hearing devices are available at the sound booth. Bring your own headphones, or use the earbuds provided.

Sign up to provide coffee & treats and/or usher on Sundays. The sheet is posted on the board near the nursery.

We are currently collecting laundry & cleaning supplies for Bountiful Baskets. Please leave items near the office.

If you are reading this, you must be checking out the website. We are looking for suggestions to make the site better as we will make revisions in 2022. See Carol Parker if you have ideas.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse? Give it to Carol Parker, along with your birthday (or other special day) in 2022 and she will schedule it for the Scripture of the Day on our facebook page.

Thanks to all who came to help decorate the church in time for the First Sunday in Advent. It looks beautiful!

MISSION OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER ~ The 2nd offering goes to MN ADULT & TEEN CHALLENGE – Their mission is to assist men, women and teens in gaining freedom from chemical addictions and other life controlling problems by addressing their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Please consider placing a generous donation in the Offering Box for this worthy cause. First Sunday, Second Offering goes to the church Benevolence Fund – please give generously.

NOTE:  OFFERING ON CHRISTMAS EVE will go to Meals on Wheels.

REQUESTED RECIPES

SLOW COOKER CHICKEN TACO SOUP
1 onion – chopped
1 can chili pinto beans
1 can black beans – rinsed
1 can corn – drained
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 can beer
2 cans diced tomatoes with green chiles
1 pkg taco seasoning
3 boneless chicken breasts
Shred cheddar
Sour cream
Tortilla strips

Place onion, beans, corn, tomato sauce, beer & diced tomatoes in a slow cooker.
Stir in the taco seasoning, until blended
Lay chicken breasts on top & press down until covered with other ingredients
SET Slow Cooker on low & cook for 5 hours
REMOVE the chicken breasts & allow to cool enough to handle.
SHRED the meat & stir back into the soup
Continue to cook for an additional two hours
Serve with shredded cheddar, sour cream & tortilla strips

WILD RICE SOUP
This makes about 6 large bowls.
1 package Uncle Ben’s Long Grain & Wild Rice, prepared as directed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 each Boneless Chicken Breast (you can use precooked chicken/roast chicken from the deli- handy, but more expensive)
(and diced ham pieces – optional), thinly sliced & chopped
2 ribs celery, chopped
1 each onion, diced
1/4 package matchstick carrots, coarsely chopped
1/2 package Baby Bella Mushrooms (optional), sliced
2 cups boxed Swanson (or other) chicken stock
1/4 cup vermouth
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups half and half
1/4 cup slivered almonds
OPTIONAL: 1 handful sliced almonds for garnish on top
Salt & Pepper to taste

1. Prepare wild rice mix (day ahead to save time)

2. Saute chicken in olive oil (add ham, if using) – IF you are using pre-cooked chicken, add this when you add the pre-cooked rice.

Add onion, celery & carrots til slightly softened (mushrooms)
Add slivered almonds
Add Vermouth & scrape the bottom of the pan

3. Add prepared rice mixture &
Chicken stock – simmer for about 10 minutes
Add Milk/Half and half – heat through
Serve garnished w/sliced almonds

CLASSIC EGG BAKE
Brown 2 pkg Jimmy Dean bulk sausage (I use 1 regular and 1 TURKEY breakfast sausage)

Place 1 pkg SEASONED croutons in a 9 x 12 baking dish
Layer with the browned, crumbled sausage;
1 – 2 cup pkg Shredded Cheddar

Beat 4 or 5 large eggs with
2 1/2 cups milk
3/4 tsp dry mustard

Pour over cheese, sausage & croutons
Cover & refrigerate overnight

In the morning mix 1/2 cup milk with 1 can Cream of Celery soup & spread on the egg mixture

BAKE at 300 for 1 1/2 hours

During the Lenten Season:

Each Wednesday during Lent, "Soup Suppers" are served at 6 PM in our Fellowship Hall. A weekly sermon follows at 6:45 pm in the Sanctuary. An offering is taken with proceeds going to a special mission determined by the Diaconate Board.
