MEMORY VERSE: Luke 9:23 “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
Pastor was moved to change the focus today Simon: The Man Who Carried the Cross. Cyrene is about 800 miles from Jerusalem. Simon travelled there to celebrate the Passover, when his day was dramatically changed. The Centurion pulled him from the crowd to carry the cross for Jesus. That moment of Divine Appointment changed him.
Are you denying yourself? Are you daily following Jesus? Holy Week is a good time to resume your attention toward Him.
SERMON NOTES:
Luke 23:26 — “As they led Him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.”
Mark 15:21 — “A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.”
Romans 16:13 “Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too.”
Luke 9:23 “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
Isaiah 53:4–6 “He has borne our griefs… the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
Closing Prayer – Pastor invites you to say this prayer,
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for bearing my sin, my shame, and my judgment on the cross.
Teach me to follow You faithfully.
Give me grace to take up my cross daily and walk behind You as I deny myself..
And may my encounter with You be so real that it changes not only me, but my family, my friends and all those
around me.
In Your name I pray, Amen.

This Holy Week, you are encouraged you grab your bible and spend some time in personal (or family) reflection. Read one of the gospel accounts of Jesus’ final hours listed below, and consider the reflection questions:
Matthew 26-27 / Mark 14-15 / Luke 22-23 / John 18-19
- How has Christ’s precious blood redeemed and purified you? How can you remember this as you think of Jesus’ sacrifice for you this week?
- Jesus sacrifice tore the curtain and gives us direct access to God the Father. Jesus cries out to Him as “Abba.” How can you approach your Abba Father with your current needs, anxieties, doubts, or fears?
- Jesus says our spirit is willing but our flesh is weak. We need to watch and pray so that we don’t fall into temptation. What is a practical step you can take to move from “weakness” to “watchfulness”?
